The Danish Embassy in Berlin is looking for a Political-Economic Policy Officer

The Embassy's Political and Economic Department is looking for a Political Officer to support its team of ten P.O.s and two interns. 

Job assignments
The Embassy’s Political and Economic Department handles a wide range of tasks, which are determined by the current domestic, foreign and European political agenda.

As our new colleague, you will be responsible for your own policy portfolio. Your tasks will include following and analysing relevant developments, as well as producing reports and briefings to support Danish objectives. Further tasks may include answering questions from Danish and German authorities and citizens, as well as assisting in the preparation of meetings of the EU Council of Ministers, planning high-level visits from Denmark, speechwriting, translations and gathering information regarding political developments in Germany. Finally, and as a minor part of the job, you will have to cover for the ambassador's PA in case of holiday or sickness. 

The position is limited to 2 years with the possibility of extension, and is based on a 37-hour week. Please note that there may be occasional and limited out-of-hours work around major events and visits. Employment conditions are subject to local German employment law and MFA guidance for local staff. Salary in accordance with qualifications according to individual agreement.

Qualifications 
We are looking for a colleague who: 
- Has a relevant academic background, preferably in social science, political science or law 
- Has good knowledge of German and a Scandinavian language (written and spoken)
- Has good understanding of politics as well as knowledge of Danish and German society, especially German domestic policy issues.
- Has broad knowledge of foreign and security policy issues 
- Has basic knowledge of EU cooperation 
- Has basic knowledge of economic issues
- Ideally has relevant professional or practical experience 
- Is a good team player and can be part of informal sparring 
- Has good networking skills
- Is flexible, adaptable and able to perform under pressure 
- Is willing to cooperate across the embassy's other departments 
- Can work independently and efficiently without compromising on quality 
- Has a sense of humour and a can-do attitude
 
Expected start date
1 November 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The employment requires security clearance from the Danish authorities.
